TVL Memorial Day Weekend
TVL Church At-Home Devotional
Rest & Dwell
Big Idea
God never designed His presence to only be experienced at church. Sometimes rest is not stepping away from God. It is slowing down enough to notice He is already near.
Welcome Church family,
This weekend looks a little different.
No gathering.
No rush out the door.
No crowded lobby.
No normal routine.
But maybe that is part of the point.
From the beginning, God built rhythms of rest into our lives. Not because He needed rest, but because we needed space to remember who He is and who we are.
Rest is not laziness.
Rest is trust.
Today, instead of gathering in rows, we encourage you to gather intentionally. Around a table. In a living room. On a back porch. Wherever you are, take time to slow down and dwell in the presence of God together.
Scripture Reading
Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Devotional Thought
There is a difference between knowing about God and being with God.
Most of us stay busy.
Busy minds.
Busy schedules.
Busy homes.
Even good things can crowd our attention.
Throughout scripture, God continually invited people to pause.
Jesus often withdrew to quiet places.
God rested on the seventh day.
Elijah heard God in a whisper, not the wind or earthquake.
Stillness creates space for awareness.
God is not absent when life slows down.
Sometimes we finally notice He has been there the whole time.
Family Discussion
Read and talk through these questions together:
1. What usually keeps us from slowing down spiritually?
2. When do you feel closest to God?
3. Why do you think God values rest?
4. What would it look like for our family to create more space for God during the week?
Kids Moment
Explain It Simply
Sometimes life gets loud and busy.
God wants us to slow down so we can spend time with Him.
Just like friendships grow when we spend time together, our relationship with God grows when we pray, worship, read the Bible, and rest in Him.
God is not only with us at church.
He is with us at home too.
Family Activity
Quiet Minute Challenge
Set a timer for one minute.
Sit quietly together with:
- no phones
- no talking
- no distractions
After the minute, ask:
- What did you notice?
- What was difficult about being still?
- Why do you think slowing down can help us hear from God?
One quiet minute with children may feel longer than parts of Leviticus, but press on.
This Week’s Challenge:
This week, create one intentional moment of rest.
Maybe that means:
- eating dinner without phones
- taking a walk and praying together
- reading scripture before bed
- worshipping together in the living room
- spending five quiet minutes with God before the day begins
Rest is not about doing nothing.
It is about making room for God.
Closing Prayer
God,
Thank You for always being near.
Help us slow down long enough to recognize Your presence. Teach our hearts to rest in You instead of constantly rushing through life.
Help our homes become places where we seek You together.
Give us peace, wisdom, and renewed strength this week.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thought
Church is not canceled this weekend.
We are simply practicing being the church at home.
Have great Weekend with Family!
